Custom Quilt Making

Quilts are made using the finest contemporary fabrics available. Unless otherwise indicated, they are made from 100% cotton that has been pre-washed for colorfastness & to ensure minimal shrinkage. Custom work is available using other fabrics.

How We Make Our Quilts

The process of quilting begins with the purchase of fabric. Quilt shops are combed for fabric that is of interest to the quilter. A particular pattern may or may not be in mind when fabric purchase is made.
Fabric is washed and pressed before storage in our “stash”. Pre-washing ensures minimal shrinkage & colorfastness.
With a palate of fabric in mind, an idea is born & a pattern is selected. This may be a traditional pattern or one available from one of the many quilt pattern designers. The quilter, to meet their needs, may alter patterns. Many contemporary quilts combine traditional patterns with modern techniques.
Fabric is carefully selected for color, tone, texture & contrast. Quilters take selected fabric, cut it into various shapes and sizes and sew it back together in a carefully selected format. Pressing is an important part of quilt production that occurs as each seam is assembled.
Once a top is pieced, the backing is selected & pieced as needed. The quilt is loaded onto the longarm quilting machine. Thread is selected along with a quilting pattern. The quilt is then quilted. Depending on quilt size & complexity of quilting chosen, this can take from several hours to several days. Quilting patterns & thread are selected for each quilt & range from the most traditional patterns to contemporary freehand quilting.
After quilting, the quilt is trimmed & bound with coordinating binding, using a two-step process.

Delivery time for custom work is generally 4-6 weeks. Every effort will be made to meet your needs for a particular time frame if you are giving the quilt as a gift. Delivery time will be established along with pricing.
