The process of quilting begins with the purchase of fabric. Quilt shops are combed for fabric that is of interest to the quilter. A particular pattern may or may not be in mind when fabric purchase is made.
All fabric is immediately washed and pressed before storage in our “stash”. This ensures minimal shrinkage and colorfastness.
When an idea is born, a pattern is selected. This may be a traditional pattern or one available from one of the many quilt pattern designers. The quilter, to meet their needs, may alter patterns.
Fabric is then carefully selected for color, tone, texture and contrast. Quilters then take this beautiful fabric, cut it into various shapes and sizes and sew it back together in a particular format. Pressing is an important part of quilt production that occurs as each seam is assembled.
Once a top is pieced, the backing is selected and pieced is needed. The quilt is then loaded onto the longarm quilting machine where it is quilted. Quilting patterns and thread are selected for each quilt and vary from the most traditional patterns to contemporary freehand quilting.
After quilting, the quilt is trimmed and bound with coordinating binding, using a two-step process.
